What students investigate
Students learn what growth means, how a question shapes a test, and why a fair test keeps most things the same. Then they follow a water test that changes only the water and a light test that changes only the light.
They observe closely, see how a healthy stem holds up a plant, measure and record growth day by day, and use what they observed as evidence for a claim. The last cards put it together in a plan that tells what we will do and how the test is set up.
Who it is for
What Plants Need is written for Grade 2 life science and pairs perfectly with a real bean-growing project. Students can plan the class test with the same words the cards use.
It connects to Pollinators & Seeds, which follows plants through pollination and seed travel.

Inside the pack
How it works in class
- Learn. 10 silent whiteboard animations, one idea per card. No audio, so it works on a classroom screen or a quiet device.
- Review. 30 practice questions with feedback. Ideas a student misses come back.
- Mastery. 30 questions to show what each student knows on their own.
- Certificate. A student who finishes can print a certificate or save it as a PDF. It shows first-try Review and Mastery results and the ideas that needed a retry.
Standards connections
These cards support parts of the following NGSS performance expectations. They do not replace hands-on investigations.

Questions teachers ask
Does it replace growing real plants?
No. The cards teach how to plan and read a fair test; growing real plants is still the investigation itself.
Which conditions are tested?
Water and light, each changed on its own while everything else stays the same.
